Seasonal Outreach

Adopt-A-Family

In this outreach ministry, anyone is invited to “Adopt-A-Family”, especially during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year or Easter holidays. This may be in the form of supplying food baskets; providing toys or clothes for children and/or adults; providing gift cards ($25 grocery gift cards to ShopRite) or $25 gift cards, movie tickets, etc.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in doing, contact the church office or Fr. Ron. For details about specific individuals or families, please speak with Fr. Ron. Families may be from within St. John’s parish or beyond in the community.

Angel Christmas Tree

St. John’s provides an Angel Christmas Tree in the Parish Hall for people to place wrapped toys and gifts for the children (ages 8 to 18) from the Somerset Home for Temporarily Displaced Children and the children of inmates at the Somerset County Jail. Simply take an angel from the tree (labeled “boy” or “girl”, with age), wrap an appropriate present, label it with that age and gender, and place it under the Angel Tree in the Parish Hall. by December 15

I pray that all members of St. John’s Church can support this special ministry and provide children with toys and gifts that they ordinarily would not receive.

God bless you,

Father Ron

Holiday Lights Parade ~ Somerville N.J.

St. John’s is proud to support the Somerville Fire Department for the Holiday Lights Parade!!

The date is advertised in the November/December Newsletter.

There will be prizes given out for the best-decorated fire and emergency vehicles, personal floats and vehicles, organizations of all kinds, and churches too. Also prizes for best-decorated houses and/or businesses along the parade route.

Special Note:

A donation in the form of toys or gift cards (grocery stores, like Shop Rite, movie theatres, sports stores, toy stores, etc.) is requested in order to participate in the parade.
The donations will be collected and distributed by St. John’s Episcopal Church. This is yet another way St. John’s is getting out into the community and working alongside other agencies and folks.
Fr. Ron.
