Blessing of the Animals
All creatures great and small, furry or feathered or scaled, and their owners, are welcome for a special blessing at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, October 2 at 3 pm, rain or shine.
The Blessing of the Animals will take place in front of the church at 158 W. High St., Somerville (inside the church). Owners are asked to bring their two, four and/or multi-legged (or no-legged) pets on a leash or in a cage. Owners will walk their pet to the Rev. Canon Ronald Pollock, rector, who will offer an individual blessing. After the blessing, there will be a card table featuring dog treats/cat toys, generously offered by The Hungry Hound, Main St., Somerville.
For more than 25 years, St. John’s has blessed pets of all kinds and sizes, recognizing the importance of pets and animals in people’s lives. The blessing of the animals is an annual Episcopal tradition in honor of St. Francis Day.
Free parking is available in the church lot behind the parish hall or on the street.
